Choosing an Entertainment Provider

The reality is choosing an entertainment provider for your wedding is going to be a huge decision. Think about the last function you went to, do you remember what you ate, the table decorations, or the drinks consumed? Do you remember the cake at the last wedding reception or if they had canape’s before dinner? What you may remember most about the night is the entertainment, because it can make or break your reception or event. The role of the entertainment is to set the mood from the beginning of the night right throughout your reception. You should have a say in all aspects of the night, right from the pre dinner music to the dancing songs your guests will enjoy.

What should you look for when choosing an entertainer? First thing is to interview the individual or business you’re looking to hire to see if they provide the service you’re looking for. Ask them questions that are important to you. Some examples to ask might be, can we choose specific music for the background music? Can our guests make requests? Can we select songs we don’t want played? How will the DJ dress? Can I meet with my DJ/entertainer before the night? How much experience has the person had? How big is your setup? Do they have a backup DJ available for emergencies?

Wedding Entertainment, Lucia & Yaz Saturday 14th April 2012, Brown Brothers Estate Milawa.

Wow, what a wedding. It was fantastic to be part of Lucia and Yaz’s reception at Brown Brothers Estate Milawa. In preparation for their reception we met and spent over an hour finding out about their music tastes, providing suggestions or to make sure their wedding was unique. Lucia & Yaz also spent time using our online planning forms to help me prepare for the wedding. I try and personalise as much of the reception and music as I can to ensure a unique feel for each wedding.

Brown Brothers is a fantastic reception centre in Milawa Victoria, worth stopping in for lunch one day and of course an amazing reception venue. The meals were beautifully presented, the staff were very professional and accommodating and I would rate as one of the best I have attended.

All Saints Estate, Albury DJ Entertainment, Claire & Dean, Sat 3rd March 2012.

If you lived in the Albury area, you would know that last weekend was one of the wettest weekends ever, many towns flooded and many wedding ceremonies moved. Claire & Dean’s wedding was no different. The ceremony was originally planned for All Saints Estate’s beautiful rose garden, the weather forced the move to the barrel room at All Saints. In no way did the weather dampen spirits. We provided the music before, during and after the ceremony. Claire was possibly the happiest (and most in love) Bride I had seen and truly enjoyed the ceremony and reception and showed no sign of stress from the weather.

We played a different song for each bridal party couple, which was a lot of fun (Bride & Groom choices), including Thank God I’m A Country Boy, Sexy & I Know It, Don’t Stop The Party, Good Feeling and Signed Sealed Delivered for the Bride & Groom. The guests then enjoyed the reception which included 3 courses, some great speeches and myself hosting “The Shoe Game”. This is a game during the reception when we ask the bride and groom a series of questions, such as “who made the first move” and the bride and groom hold up a shoe of who best describes the answer (a Bride or Groom’s shoe). It brought many laughs and funny results. The fun did not stop after the bridal waltz with some karaoke from the groom, group dances and a variety of music from 60′s to top 40. A friend of the Bride & Groom did sang Michael Buble to perfection and The Bridal waltz was Burn your name – Powderfinger followed by Your Song – Elton John & Everything  - Michael Buble.

The Picture Perfect Photo Booth was lots of fun with most guests getting a pic or two in the booth to put in the bride and grooms wedding keepsake. They had the option to dress up with props supplied from Picture Perfect, a fun concept.

It was great to be a part of the wedding as I was the DJ at the local nightclub when they first met and worked with the bride years before. With over 90 guests the dance floor was full for almost 3 hours when the crowd departed by bus to Albury. Venue up lighting (purple) and photos provided by us.

Lake Crackenback Resort, Albury DJ Entertainment, Saturday 28th Jan 2012.

Not many people get the opportunity to see amazing things as part of there work, but on Saturday I traveled the snowy mountains highway through Corryong, Khancoban through to Thredbo, NSW and onto my destination at Lake Crackenback Resort for Sonia & Rob’s wedding reception.

I could instantly see the draw card as I witnessed the guests enjoy some post ceremony drinks with the Bride & Groom beside the lake as I set up for the reception. The reception venue overlooks the same lake with beautiful mountains in the background which during winter would be covered in snow, but during summer is a great place for a wedding. I also enjoyed the fact that families had come to the wedding for a whole weekend away and the resort really caters for families and couples with many activities to do throughout the resort. http://www.lakecrackenback.com.au/

The MC John did a great job welcoming people and introducing the bridal party and I could see it was going to be a great night. As soon as the bridal waltz begun people crammed the dance floor and we played through a mixture of the requests I had collected from the guests throughout the night (from request cards on tables). It was a mixed group who enjoyed rock, country, top 40 and classic party favourites. A highlight was getting the Bridal party in the middle of the circle as they swung their partners to “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and the crowd really enjoying “Sexy & I Know It” by LMFAO. The dance floor was full until we finished after 12am and the guests departed.

The next morning I really enjoyed spending some time in Thredbo and loved the drive home. I am fortunate to be able to provide DJ entertainment at such unique locations and the guests really appreciated the night and the location. I had such positive feedback, including the mother of the bride thanking me and telling me she would recommend me to anyone.

Katrina & Josh’s reception. Saturday 12th November 2011, Jono @ Albury DJ Entertainment

Saturday the 12th of November turned out to be a really fun night. After providing the ceremony music at St Patricks Church, the reception was held at The Best Western Hovell Tree in Albury. Everyone was ready for a great night, with friends from all over Australia moving through the room to catch up, and even handing out the request cards I could see this was going to be a party crowd. The speeches were a crack up, and then the party started right after the bridal waltz. A highlight was the bride Katrina singing Summer of 69 to perfection, seeing everyone shuffling (LMFAO style) and everyone loving the party tracks like timewarp, cotton eye Joe, and even nut bush. The crowd really got into the music and kept the dance floor full for almost 3 hours. We finished with an action packed bouquet throw (great catch), a great performance from Josh (the groom) getting the garter and a pickup from the back for the garter throw. The feedback to facebook from the bride the next day read “Jono we can’t thank you enough!!! you did an awesome job. Everyone had a great time including my mum” which was great and appreciated.

It was a really enjoyable night and was great to see so many familiar faces in the crowd. More photos can be found at our Facebook page, don’t forget to “like”  https://www.facebook.com/alburydj.

It was a pleasure being a part of their special day, Jono – Albury DJ Entertainment.

Melinda & Michael, Friday 14th October 2011. All Saints Estate.

This wedding was held on Friday 14th October at the always amazing All Saints Estate Wahgunyah, Vic. It was a fun wedding with over 130 guests, the party was going from after speeches about 8pm, non stop until the finish at 11pm when the dance floor was full and everyone would have continued. At 10:50pm we did the Bouquet throw and a thank you circle, which soon became the whole crowd dancing to I’ve had the time of my life and then finished with two more songs Give me Everything and “Party Rock Anthem, which left the crowd wanting more. The crowd had a great time and it was another beautiful and flawless wedding hosted by All Saints. DJ Entertainment & photos provided by Jono Toohey, Albury DJ Entertainment.

Weddings Saturday 17th September 2011

Friday 16th September I (Jono) was the DJ for Heather & Nathan’s wedding at All Seasons Lake Hume Resort. The Ceremony started at 3pm where I provided Ceremony music and took few photos throughout (which the couple received later) and the reception started at 6pm. The guests had a great time on the dance floor and really enjoyed being able to make requests with our request cards on the tables. Finished the night at 11pm with a full dance floor and everyone having a great night. I had a huge collection of fun photos throughout the night which the couple received early this week.

Wedding Reception, Saturday 3rd September 2011, Sarah & Garth.

Albury DJ Entertainment Event Rap Up – September 3rd 2011, Sarah & Garth. The wedding ceremony and reception for Sarah & Garth was held at The Albury Manor House, Saturday 3rd of September 2011. Ceremony music, DJ entertainment and MC services were provided by myself, Jono Toohey of Albury DJ Entertainment. The reception started out great with the room a buzz with excitement after the Bride & Groom arrived from photos. Guests enjoyed singing along to background music, including To Be With You (Mr Big) and came up with some interesting music request ideas for myself.

One of the funiest parts of the reception was the Groom & Groomsmen deciding to Karaoke You’ve Lost That Lovin Feeling (from Top Gun). This then turned into several guests having a sing along to Grease, Tribute (Tenacious D) and the Groom singing to the Bride When You Say Nothing At All (Ronan Keating). I don’t normally offer a Karaoke service but it was a fun time, and the guests enjoyed watching the Bridal party bust out some classics. We ended up going an extra hour as they were having such a great time. I have included a conclusion video that I recorded straight after the reception, which I have posted below. I had a great time at the wedding and enjoyed being a part of their day.
